Description

Every student of the Master International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD) is expected to do an internship in the first year of the MIRD. The programme leaves room for an internship placement during the fourth block of the first year, so within the timeframe of the beginning of April until the end of August, with a minimum requirement of 10 weeks (full time).

Relevant organisations for the internship are NGOs, interest groups, government or international organisations, or media organisations working in the field of International Relations and Diplomacy, broadly defined.

Course objectives

The internship provides students with hands-on experience in the working environment of a relevant organization. Activities conducted in the framework of the internship are expected to be at an academically sound level.

Assessment method

The relevant documents concerning reporting on your internship are: an assessment form and an internship report.

  1. Assessment form: written by the internship supervisor from the internship organisation.
    1. Internship Report: This report, approximately 1500 words, consists of two elements:

a) Description of the internship, i.e. the type and aims of the organisation you’ve worked for, the various activities that the internship entailed, and the relevance of these activities for the work of the organisation at large;
b) Reflection on the internship in light of the academic study of IR&D.

The internship (10ECTs) is graded as pass/fail, based on an assessment of the internship organisation supervisor (pass/fail) and your internship report (pass/fail).
