Description

Lectures will be given by group members teaching in the cluster Microbial Biotechnology. The lectures will provide an integrated overview on the research topics studied in the Microbial Biotechnology and Health specialisation and will highlight the key scientific questions in the research fields covered by this specialisation.

Learning goals

Course objectives:

  • To provide students with a good insight in de various research topics of the groups within the Microbial Biotechnology cluster

  • To introduce them to the basic concepts and the key scientific questions covered by those research fields

  • To provide students with up-to-date knowledge on the state of the art in this field.

  • To facilitate the choice for a first MSc research project, and to enable the planning of a concept program for the 2-years MSc specialisation.

Final qualifications:
A MSc student in Biology with an established study program, ready to start the theoretical courses and the first (internal) research project for the selected specialisation.

Timetable

From 5 September to 16 September 2016. Week 1-2: lectures and self-study (reading papers and studying chapters of Brock)
Programme details will be announced via Blackboard.

Assessment method

Written exam based on chapters from Brock, Biology of Microorganisms and one or more review papers with topics related to the research interests in the cluster.

Blackboard will be used for communication.

Remarks

For students who follow the specialisation Microbial Biotechnology and Health, the orientation on Microbial Biotechnology and Health course can be replaced by an Orientation Course from a different specialisation.
