Optional Courses
All MA courses offered at level 400 or higher can be followed as optional course. It is advisable to take these courses in the first semester of the programme. It is possible to take them in the second semester, provided you start with the thesis in the first semester.
Alternatively, student can opt for a internship or study abroad as an optional course.

Optional Courses include, but are not limited to, the courses offered by the History Institute.

Study Abroad
Leiden University offers the option to follow optional courses and/or write your thesis abroad, more information is available on the Internationalisation website.
Internships
For more information on a possible internship during your Master, you can check the website of the Humanities Careers Centre. Please note that your internship should be a fulltime position for at least three months. Your internship will need to be supervised by a professor within the History Department.
If you opt for an internship or to follow courses at other departments/universities, you will need to submit a request to the Board of Examiners of History beforehand.
