Admission requirements

At least 2 of the 3 courses from the BA2 profile Archaeology of Europe (Early prehistory / Late prehistory and provincial-Roman archaeology / Medieval archaeology) obtained.

Description

This course centers on a small research project based on primary archaeological data, following up on a research project of the Faculty of Archaeology. You learn how to draw up a research question, collect data, analyse data, and write a scientific report.
There is a choice of various projects, from early Prehistory to the late Middle Ages.

Course objectives

Ability to:

  • Draw up research questions about primary archaeological data;

  • Collect and analyse archaeological data;

  • Write a scientific report;

  • Carefully handle archaeological finds and documentation;

  • Work in a team.

Mode of instruction

  • Practicals, in small groups (maximum 6-8 people);

  • Individual study.

Course load

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • 28 hours of supervised practicals (1 ec);

  • 200 pages of literature (1,5 ec);

  • Final report of ca. 5,000 words (2,5 ec).

Assessment method

Final report (individual).

A retake is only possible for the final report and only when all other requirements have been met. The retake consists of improvement of the final report to a 6,0.
