Description

With regards to writing a thesis, there are two compulsory modules: the Thesis Preparation Module (4413GRPMDY) and the Thesis Research Project (4413TRP30Y). The Thesis Preparation Module results in a thesis proposal that ideally forms the starting point for the Thesis Research project.

Students of the master’s programme Industrial Ecology have to select, depending on their interest and background, a research topic in deliberation with staff members of one or more of the research groups involved. Students have to work independently on a research project.
As preparation to the research topic, the involved staff member can ask the student to successfully finish specific Specialisation Modules, this has to be discussed with the student before the Master’s Thesis Research starts.

The Thesis Research Project deals with the following aspects: – Practical and theoretical work in a research group, including interpretation and evaluation of data, combine these with current knowledge and formulate a conclusion. – Present the research methods, outcome and conclusion in an oral and written presentation.

Course objectives

1) The thesis counts for 30 ECTS.
2) The thesis is a written report about a research project which has been conducted independently by a student under the guidance of a first and a second supervisor. Alternative products of the work could be added to this e.g. a product or process design or a piece of software. The thesis work should clearly show that the student is capable of:
a) collecting, studying and evaluating the relevant scientific literature;
b) executing and if necessary, adapting a research plan;
c) independently conducting a research project on an academic level;
d) independently reporting on an academic research project;
e) thinking in a critical and creative way;
f) reflecting on her/his own work.
