Course information
This course will introduce students to the role that corporate governance plays in the financial sector and the general principles of corporate governance. Corporate governance is a topic of considerable interest to a large and expanding section of the community. In the financial sector, sound corporate governance is considered to be one of the key factors that determine the financial health of an individual company and the health of the financial system in its entirety. The course will discuss certain key elements of corporate governance, including remuneration, audit, outsourcing, the four eyes principle, organisation & control and integrity. During the course of the programme students will have the opportunity to compare the approach of different jurisdictions on corporate governance in the financial sector.
Course learning objectives
This course aims to introduce students to the role that corporate governance plays in the financial sector and discuss the general principles of corporate governance.
Students gain thorough knowledge and understanding of the key elements of corporate governance and the role it plays in the financial sector;
Students gain knowledge and understanding of the approach of different jurisdictions on corporate governance within the financial sector.

Areas to be tested within the exam
The final exam will cover all of the required reading (literature) for the course, the course information guide and the subjects taught in the lectures, the seminars and all other instructions wich are part of the course. Information about the exam will be given to the students closer to the exam date.
The opportunity exists to re-take the exam. Further information will be communicated through Blackboard.
The final grade for the course will be the weighted average. The final grade, on the scale from 1(poor) to 10 (excellent), for the course is established by determining the weighted average and rounded to full grades. Grade 6 (5.5 rounded) is a pass
