Advanced Reading & Writing in Japanese 3 (120 EC)

Admission requirements

Students admitted to MA Asian Studies 120 ec, Japanese Studies. Successful completion of Advanced integrated Japanese 1&2, year1/sem1&2/block3.

Description

In this relatively short course, students will focus on developing skills to be able to read and discuss Japan’s contemporary issues.
They will also receive some training in writing. Language activities are organized in order to develop and enhance logical thinking
further.

Course objectives

In addition to the development and enhance logical thinking, the course aims to develop skills necessary to present and produce texts (oral and written) about specialized topics including their thesis.

Course Load

Total: 140 hrs

  • Classes : 12 hrs(2hrsX1/week over 6 weeks)

  • Text reading and class preparations : 40 hrs

  • Preparation for the oral presentation : 20 hrs

  • Preparation for the Kanji Quizzes : 18 hrs

  • Writing Assignments : 30 hrs

  • Extra activity: Japanese internet news site reading etc. : 20 hrs

Assessment method

  • Participation element (attendance, assignments, Kanji&Vocabulary Quiz): 40%

  • Oral presentation: 20%

  • Final exams (reading & writing): 40%

The re-sit exam for the final exam is available to students whose mark of the final exam is insufficient.

Exam Review

Students may request an oral elucidation of the assessment within 30 days after publication of the grade.
