Previous knowledge of cognitive neuroscience and/or psycho- and neurolinguistics and basic descriptive/inferential statistics is desirable.
Description
This course covers neural models of language processing in healthy and language-impaired adults. Also, methods to study language processing in the human brain are discussed. Specifically, neural models of speech perception and production, language comprehension and production, bilingualism and language disorders are covered. The goal of the course is to gain knowledge about methods and theoretical models and controversies in cognitive neuroscience of language and to be able to critically evaluate methods and models in cognitive neuroscience of language. The course is suitable for students interested in the relationship between language processing and the human brain.

Assessment method
Every lecture (except the first two) starts with a mini-test about the study material corresponding to the weekly topic. The average grade of the best 9 out of 10 mini tests + the final exam will count for 60% of the grade. Mini-tests will consist of 3 multiple choice questions with four answer categories. The final test will consist of 22 multiple choice questions and two open questions about all obligatory literature (i.e., including anatomy and methods). In total 108 points gain be gained for the mini-tests + exams, with the threshold to pass (i.e., grade 6) set to 67 points.
-Each student gives a presentation about a weekly topic which is graded by the lecturers (75%) and the students (25%), which will count for 10% of the grade. See blackboard for the grading criteria.
-Students write a research proposal about one of the topics covered during the course, that will count for 30% of the final grade. See blackboard for the grading criteria.
Each of the components above (mini-tests, final exam, presentation, proposal) is obligatory to pass.
Only the exam can be resited
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
