Admission requirements
Admission to the MSc programme Human Osteoarchaeology as the first focus area;
Palaeopathology obtained.
Description
This is a graduate level laboratory course wherein you will gain hands-on experience with human skeletal remains. You will analyse and identify commingled specimens as well as complete burial reports (including age and sex estimation, palaeopathological analysis).
An excellent knowledge of the human skeleton is expected prior to taking this course.
Course objectives
To apply existing knowledge of human skeletal anatomy and pathological conditions to independent analysis;
To recognise pathological conditions and identify what injuries or diseases could have been the cause;
To assess the range of normal human skeletal morphological variation to accurately determine pathological changes;
To increase knowledge about science-based approaches within the field of osteoarchaeology;
To refine critical thinking skills.

The course load will be distributed as follows:
Laboratory work (5 ec).
Assessment method
Laboratory assignments (100%).
Retakes are not possible.

Registration
Registration via uSis is mandatory.
The Administration Office will register all BA1 students for their tutorials (not lectures; register via uSis!).
BA2, BA3, MA/MSc and RMA/RMSc students are required to register for all lectures and tutorials well in time.
The Administration Office registers all students for their exams, students are not required to do this in uSis.
