Computing and public policy in European and International Perspective

Description

Introduction in the International and European specifics of public policies that impact on computing and the digital society: Data Protection regimes, Net Neutrality; Security and Surveillance policies, Public Policy and Corporate Involvement; Data and Science Policy; Connectivity as a Public Good. Policy regimes will be compared in order to understand their influence on quality data for machine-learning, AI and data science.

Course objectives

  • To provide tools to understand public policy on digital data management in a comparative perspective

  • To scope out key areas of international public policies and how these impact on the digital society and their consequences

  • To use analytical concepts and gain hands on skills in applying these to compare agenda-setting processes

  • To develop skills of how to prepare a Research Proposal: content, methods and key-topics
