Description
This course builds on Descriptive Linguistics 1 in the first semester. In Descriptive Linguistics 2
we focus on the analysis of raw language data in all areas of linguistics: phonology, morphology,
and syntax. The emphasis is on choosing the best analysis. We use little analyzed and unpolished
data collections on which the students themselves work, also in groups.
Course objectives
Skills in making a description and first analysis of phonological, morphological and syntactic
phenomena of unknown languages. Basic skills in specific computer applications such as ELAN.

Two essays (each 50%), one for each block. Both have to be handed in and both need a pass (6,0).

50 % each essay.

Per essay: extension of original essay
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
