Description

In the first block, students will learn to translate texts from the ancient Egyptian literary genre, focusing primarily on The Shipwrecked Sailor and the Westcar Papyrus. Following the mid-term, the class will then encounter a wide range of textual genres, including autobiographical, historical, funerary, medical, magical, and legal texts. This course will teach students how to translate Middle Egyptian texts in their entirety; the texts chosen will expose them to many facets of an ancient complex civilisation.
