BA2 students in Koreastudies who successfully completed Korean2 or equivalent can enroll.
Description
This is an intermediate Korean reading course. By reading short and semi-authentic news articles in Korean on various topics, students will learn vocabulary, grammar, and expressions that are frequently used in professional and academic texts.
Course objectives
Students will:
Read Korean texts regularly.
Familiarize themselves with the styles and the linguistic conventions of professional/academic texts.
Learn vocabulary and grammar in context.
Gain confidence in dealing with authentic Korean texts.

Assessment and Weighing
Final grades will be determined according to the following formula:
Weekly participation and in-class assignments: 7%
Daily reading test (closed questions and short open questions): 75%
Weekly individual reading assignments: 18%
Resit
No resit for a missed reading test, unless due to uncontrollable circumstances and arranged in advance. This resit should take place within 2 weeks from the original test date in principle.
No grade given for the late submission of a weekly individual reading assignment, unless due to uncontrollable circumstances and arranged in advance.
Inspection and feedback
Within two weeks after a test or an assignment, students can review their test or receive feedback

Remarks
As is the case for all Korean Studies courses, a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Attendance in all lectures and seminars is expected. Failure to attend results in a lower grade. If you do not attend more than three classes (per 5EC), you will not be able to continue attending the classes and your exam and/or paper may not be graded by the instructor(s). If you have a valid reason for absence, you may get dispensation from this rule, but this requires that you consult the coordinator of studies.
