Description
This course examines contemporary Chinese society from a global perspective. We will study how sociologists and anthropologists consider diverse ways in which globalization manifests itself in present-day China. We will look at China’s “global cities” and world factories, attitudes and behaviors regarding immigrants and global environmental concerns, and consumption of foreign culture in China, among other topics. We will discuss the impact of global processes, as well as limits of globalization.
Course objectives
Learn about sociological and anthropological approaches to globalization, in relation to contemporary China.
Acquire and deepen knowledge of certain aspects of social life in contemporary China.
Develop critical thinking, analytical, writing, and presentation skills, as well as develop ability to collect and process information and work with secondary sources.

To pass the course, the final grade and the grade for the final paper has to be a 5.5 or higher. The final paper can be resubmitted only if a student received a 5.49 or lower for the first attempt.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
