2021-2022

Admission requirements

This course is only available for students in the BA International Studies programme.

Description

Spanish 1 Intermediate is a language course for students with an A2 Spanish level.
The course has a communicative approach: attention will be paid to the use of the language in practical everyday situations.

The focus will be on reading and listening comprehension (‘Reception activities’ (CEFR). There will be plenty of opportunities to interact in the target language through class activities and discussions. Students will be encouraged to practise reading and writing skills in their own time.
For this purpose, we will use a comprehensive intermediate-level method: Aula Internacional Plus 3. The book is well structured and clearly laid out in different sections, with a task-based approach.

Besides the textbook, we will use a grammar book level B1 as complementary material for Aula Internacional as well as online resources available via Brightspace.

This course is taught entirely in Spanish.

Course objectives

This course enables students with an A2 in Spanish to further develop their language skills and to complete the level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for reading and listening.

Spanish 1 Intermediate is the first course in a series of three language courses within the International Studies program. This communicative course develops the learners' oral and written proficiency in Spanish in most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in a country where Spanish is spoken.

The final objective of this course series is to obtain an advanced level of proficiency in Spanish: the student will be able to interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and spontaneity to enable easy and natural communication between interlocutor and to understand the gist of complex texts about both concrete and abstract topics.
