Assessment method

Assessment and Weighing

Students must pass the exams (midterm & final written exams and final oral exams). Thereafter final grades will be determined according to the following formula:

  • Weekly in-class vocabulary quizzes: 5%;

  • Workbook assignments: 3%

  • Remindo pre-unit tests: 5%

  • Weekly assignments: 12%

  • Midterm written exam: 30%;

  • Final written exam: 30%;

  • Final Oral exam: 15%.

Resit

  • If you fail to meet the attendance requirement, you will fail the course. No resit or make-up.

  • If you fail to meet the requirements for workbook submission, you will fail the course. No resit or make-up.

  • You can do two vocabulary resits upon request, as long as it is within two weeks of the original quiz date.

  • You can resit Remindo Pre-unit Tests twice upon request, as long as it is within 2 weeks of the original closing date.

  • If you fail to meet the requirements for weekly assignment, you will fail the course. No resit or make-up.

  • There is no resit after the midterm written exam even if your grade is lower than 6.0.

  • If your average grade of midterm and final for (1) listening, (2) reading, and (3) grammar, vocabulary, and conversations, respectively is below 6.0, you need resit only the failed portion. The resit covers all material of the relevant area of the course and the resit grade will replace both the midterm and final.

  • Even if your average grade of the written exams is 6.0 or higher, you will have to resit if you receive below 5.5 in your final exam.

  • The final oral consists of two exams. You should receive overall 6.0 or higher to pass. If you fail to receive 5.5 or higher in any of the two exams (even if the average of the two is over 6.0), you need to resit the failed portion(s). If you receive 5.5 from both oral exams, you need to resit at least one portion of your choice to make the overall average grade over 6.0.

Inspection and feedback

Within two weeks after an exam, date and time for exam debriefing session will be announced via Brightspace in order for students to view their exam.

Remarks

As is the case for all Korean Studies courses, a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Attendance in all lectures and seminars is expected. Failure to attend may result in a lower grade. If you do not attend more than three classes (per 5EC), you will not be able to continue attending the classes and your exam and/or paper may not be graded by the instructor(s). If you have a valid reason for absence, you may get dispensation from this rule, but this requires that you consult the coordinator of studies.
