Admission to the MA International Relations, track European Union Studies.
Description
This course analyses the functioning of core EU institutions from the perspective of political science. It draws on a variety of theories of integration and disintegration to build a better understanding of the day-to-day practices of these institutions and the way they influence the process of policy-making in the European Union.
Course objectives
Through this course the students will acquire
a clear understanding of the different theoretical perspectives on the process of European integration
experience with research and analysis of decision-making processes inside key European institutions
a good sense of the positions and influence of different national and transnational actors on the work of EU institutions.

Assessment
The course requires the students to actively engage with the course material as well as to conduct and share their individual research. Your performance in the course will be graded according to the following components:
Weighing
Active participation: 15%
Group presentation: 25%
Analysis of the policy process (group): 10%
Policy brief x2: 50%
Resit
Resit is available for the written components of the course only (policy briefs). The resit must be submitted within 2 weeks from the receipt of the failing grade.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
