Description
This Portuguese language course develops written and oral communication skills through an intensive programme of language acquisition. Grammar and language structures are taught around a schedule centred on practical/concrete situations, such as speaking about oneself, getting to know people, finding one’s way around town etc., and further develops the ability to express past events, experiences and wishes. Moreover, the course also aims at familiarizing students with elements of Brazilian culture through the use of our own materials.

Course objectives
This course covers four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with elementary language structures and a selection of practical vocabulary clusters.

Written assessments: assignments: 15% and final written assignment 10%;
Partial exam 25% and Final exam 25% (tests include linguistic exercises – eg. fill-the-gap exercises – and written comprehension or short composition).
Oral assessment: 25% of mark (short presentation and question/answer session).
The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.
If the final mark is 5.4 or less, the student must take the corresponding resit.
