Admission requirements

This course is only accessible for BA Japanstudies students. Students must have successfully completed the course Applied linguistics IIa: Conversation & listening skills.

This course is only in block 3. Students that do not go to Japan and thus follow the regular programme in Leiden, will follow the course Applied Linguistics IIc: Production in block 4.

Description

Productie2b is designed for students who have completed a pre-intermediate level of Japanese course. The primary goal of this course is to improve the communication skills for conducting practical conversations, including the ability to manage speech level properly, for stating opinions, giving explanations and making a short speech, and listening skills for picking up various types of information. Students will learn general knowledge, such as grammar and (kanji) vocabulary necessary for communication at intermediate level, reviewing the contents of beginning level. This course will cover Lesson 6 through 8 of the “Tobira” Textbook

Course objectives

At the end of the course, students will be expected to perform sufficiently in speaking and listening skills at a basic level of proficiency, which is equivalent B1 of Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) in which students are required to give a prepared straightforward presentation on familiar topic, such as religion, popular culture and traditional performing arts. The “Tobira” is a content base textbook which provides content that satisfies students’ interest while at the same time cultivating the knowledge, thereby easing the transition into higher level of Japanese proficiency.

Weighing

The final grade is established by determining the weighted average of all elements. In order to pass the course, all elements must receive a passing grade (6 or higher).

Inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
