Admission requirements
Under construction of still subject to change.
Same as admission requirements for the BA Art History/BA Arts, Media and Society.
This course has replaced the course Core curriculum: World Art Studies (2022-2023).
Description
In the past decades, the scope of the art historical discipline has become ever more global, as the “global turn” in the Humanities increasingly challenges Eurocentrism and the hegemony of Western cultural norms. World Art Studies aims to bring together disparate views on the arts and artistic traditions from all around the world. This course will introduce some of the pertinent theoretical, methodological, and historiographical issues, concepts, and approaches. We will look into sources and debates on artistic and cultural interconnections and exchanges between Europe and the world in the contexts of exploration, mercantile expansion, colonialism, imperialism and their legacies.
