Description
This course introduces students to Persian language media produced in and outside of Iran. The course will provide students with the language skills required to listen and read Persian material in the media through developing their knowledge of the register of the language used in the media as well as enhancing their reading and listening skills. Moreover, it will provide students with the skills required to utilise media sources in their academic research. Various types of sources will be covered throughout lectures and seminars. The course therefore will make use of various themes in the media, and will use audio/visual and written material to achieve this goal.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, students will enhance their language proficiency and become independant learners. They will develop the ability to comprehend and engage with sources in the target language through listening and reading as well as articulating their insights in both written and oral academic contexts. Additionally, students will acquire proficiency in technical terms and expressions commonly used in the media. Furthermore, they will gain familiarity with the language registers employed across various Persian media outlets, thereby deepening their understanding of diverse topics, including culture and politics in Iran. Through the application of their language skills, students will learn to identify and utilise relevant media articles (digital or print for academic research purposes. As a result, by the end of the course, students will possess the necessary skills to analyse various types of texts from Persian media, integrating them into their academic research.

Resit
There will be only one resit exam, for the midterm and the final, which will count 80%.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
