Topics: Obtaining knowledge about Asia and its academic world, business and culture during an Honours summer school supported by private and public partners
Disciplines: International relations, intercultural communication, Chinese language and culture, international business economics and technological developments.
Skills: Completing a consultancy project in a multidisciplinary team for a partner organization, writing reports and magazine articles, presenting, Chinese language and culture.
Admission requirements:
This course is an (extracurricular) Honours Class: an elective course within the Honours College programme. Second and third year bachelor students who don’t participate in the Honours College, have the opportunity to apply for a Bachelor Honours Class. Students will be selected based on i.a. their motivation and average grade.
Students who want to graduate in the summer of 2025 are advised not to follow a summer school because we cannot guarantee timely registration of your grade in uSis.
NAHSS requires the following criteria from participants:
You are a second- or third-year bachelor student at a Dutch University;
You are fluent in written and spoken English;
You have affinity with Asia;
You are ambitious, social, active, open-minded and pro-active;
You are an excellent student and meet one of the following requirements: Honours student, above average study results and/or distinctive extracurricular activities.
Costs:
For the excursion to Asia there will be an additional cost of 1200-1300 euros (can be paid in installments).

Theme NAHSS 2025: Sustaining Supply & Innovation
Course objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
be able to conduct a consultancy assignment or study in a multidisciplinary team of students;
be able to process the obtained results into a relevant final product like a report, magazine or presentation;
have extensive knowledge about the theme of NAHSS;
have a clear image of international relations between The Netherlands and Asia;
have broad knowledge about economy in Asia and technological developments;
have knowledge about the academic world, business and culture in Asia.
Programme and schedule:
March 2025: participants list their preferred consulting project
March 22 & 23, 2025: Kick-Off weekend
March-June: Preparatory work in the Netherlands, including a visit to the partner consulting project
March - May, 2025 (t.b.d.): Weekly Chinese language and culture course (optional)
t.b.d.: Masterclass
t.b.d.: Take-Off
July-August: Students travel to the summer programme destination
August - September, 2025: Completing the consulting project by presenting the final results to the partner
End of October 2025: NAHSS Closing Ceremony
Location
Netherlands, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City.
Course load:
This course is worth 5 ECTS, which means the total course load equals 140 hours.
During the preparational phase you will spend 5-10 hours per week on NAHSS. This includes activities like conducting interviews, performing literature research, meeting with your project group and working on your final product.
Attendance at all activities is mandatory, both in The Netherlands and Asia.
Assessment methods:
Students can only pass this course after successful completion of all partial exam:
Active participation during all parts of the program;
Assignment and study for the partner organisation;
Presentation for partner organisation;
Magazine article about the NAHSS theme.
uSis:
Please note: students are not required to register in uSis for the Bachelor Honours Classes. Your registration will be done centrally.
