Description
In this course a variety of multivariate analysis models will be discussed. Prior to the selection of the appropriate model some common problems will be dealt with. For instance: how to check assumptions, what to do if assumptions are wrong, how to deal with missing data, what to do with outliers? Furthermore: are relationships between variables linear or not? Are variables normally distributed and does transformation of the variables lead to more optimal statistical tests? Besides this “cleaning up” the data, selection of the appropriate model plays an important role in this course. Related to this model selection measures of effect size will be discussed. Analyses which will be discussed are: Multiple regression analysis, categorical data analysis, multivariate analysis of variances and covariances, discriminant analysis, survival analysis.
All statistical analyses will be carried out by the computer package SPSS.

Students:
acquire knowledge of, and insight into, the principles of relevant modern multivariate techniques
acquire knowledge of, and insight into, practical competence with respect to analyzing data with multivariate methods

NB: Exam registration will take place via uSis, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who haven’t registered, cannot participate in the exam.
