Description

The course ‘Citizens’ Rights’ is a 5-ECTS course specialising on the position of the citizens in the EU.
The course starts off with a series of interactive lectures in which different aspects of EU citizenship will pass the revue. What is EU citizenship; what rights to EU citizens have; what problems do the citizens encounter and what are their aspirations? The topic will be looked upon from different angles: the historical, the legal, the political and the socialogical side.
The course ends with the question of “evolution, devolution or status quo of citizenship?”. Students will be asked to present and write a paper on the topic with particular attention the intergration of the different diciplines.

Course objectives

The objective is of the course is three fold. First of all students should obtain detailed knowlegde of the rights of citizens in today’s EU. Secondly, students should be able to choose one specific topic and research it from different disciplines. Finally students will have increased the oral and written skills by presenting their findings.

The course is marked on the basis of the oral performance (30%) and the written performance (70%).
