Description

In this course we will discuss recent developments in the field of colonial history, paying particular attention to the ‘cultural and geographical turn’. By reading samples from historiographies from around the world we will deal with the question of sources, agency and perspectives that are central to any history, but seem even more pressing in colonial contexts. The general problem that we will be dealing with in this review of colonial history is the uneasy relationship with 1. local (regional) history and 2. global history.

Students will develop a full understanding of new trends and current debates in the field of colonial history.
