Admission requirements
Admission to this course is restricted to students in the MA programme Philosophy (120 EC), specialisations Philosophy of Law, and Philosophy of Political Science.
Description
In this seminar we will investigate what a just distribution requires. Should it be an equal one, or should we give priority to the least well off? How should we effectuate that distribution? Is it required to let the market run its course and redistribute afterwards if necessary, or should a system of institutional checks and balances be created to reign in the market? Finally, we will discuss elaborately the question what exactly needs to be distributed. Is a just state concerned with the distribution of well-being and happiness of its citizens or should it only distribute the opportunities for well-being. These theories and answers will be tested and illustrated with more or less recent question of distributive justice.
