Admission to the Master EUS.
Description
This course will explore the legal dimension of European integration. The EU is unique in its institutional set-up, its supranational legal order and its interplay with the legal order of its Member States. Accordingly, the course will outline on the main chapters of EU constitutional and substantive law. Special attention will be paid to the four freedoms and the rigts of EU citizens.
The course has two distinct parts. A series of lectures form the first part and will end with a written mind term exam testing the theoretical knowlegde of EU law. The second part is a Moot Court were students are challenged by real cases and play the roles of parties and court.
Course objectives
Having successfully completed the course, students will be familiar with the main legal questions that arise in the context of the EU. They will have good understanding of the particularities of the EU legal order and decision making as well as the main areas of substantive law. In terms of skills, the students will be able to find sources (judgments, secondary legislation) and to identify the important elements of these sources. The Moot Courts furthermore enables them to use their academic skills, by applying researched knowledge to specific cases and train their oral and organisational skills by pleading in groups..
