Admission requirements
Description
The development of the Mesopotamian astronomy will be followed from ca. 2000 BC into the 1st mill. BC. Special attention will be paid to the three paths in which the heaven was divided and to the discovery of the zodiac.
Course objectives
To give en overview of a proto-science in the Ancient Near East that reached a high level and was borrowed by many other cultures, including the Greeks and the Egyptians. The student will become familiar with science as it was understood and practiced in ancient Mesopotamia.
