Admission requirements
Admission to this course is restricted to second-year students in the BA programme in Philosophy (both BA Plus-traject and standaardtraject).
Description
This course teaches the students how to present their research in English. During the first half of the course the students are introduced to the writing of an academic paper in good English with attention to such topics as clarity, coherence, cohesion, and information structure. At the end of the first part of the course the students write a short article. However, scientists do not only publish their work in books and journals: they also share the results of their research at international conferences. An academic article will often be the starting-point for such a conference presentation, but it needs to be adapted, because spoken words are governed by different rules than written texts. In the second half of the course presentation techniques are discussed. The last tutorial will be a mini conference at which participants present the articles they have written.
