Description
The Leiden Special Collections are a treasure house, not only because they house a extremely important collection of medieval and early modern books, but also because these books can provide detailed information on the way in which they were made and used. This course will look at the physical evidence of the production and consumption of the collection. More in particular, two aspects will be studies. One concerns the use of fragments of medieval manuscripts in the binding of the books; the other focuses on the traces of ownership and use that can be found in the individual books.
