This course is only available for students in the BA International Studies.
Prerequisites: Japanese 1 and 2
Description
Japanese 3 is the level where one can communicate almost all daily situations in Japanese. In other words, this is the stage where the students learn how to communicate efficiently in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities.
Learning how to communicate by studying Grammar and phrases, we focus on the culture and society where Japanese is spoken and that is “Japan”.
Course objectives
This course enables the student to achieve a good level (A2/B1) of the Common European Frame (CEF). By the end of the 3rd semester of Japanese, a student can:
1. deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where Japanese is spoken.
2. talk about the topics that are familiar of personal interest ( family, hobbies, work, travel and current events)
3. read the simple everyday material such as advertisement, menus and timetables and also understand short simple personal letters.
4. Write short ,simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate need and also simple letters such as thanks letters.

Mode of instruction
Seminar (Language course)
Attending the seminarsis compulsory. If you are not able to attend a seminar, please inform the tutor of the course. Being absent without notification can result in a lower grade or exclusion from the final exam or essay.

In class oral performances: 20%
Listening: 10%
Vocabulary tests: 10%
Written exam: 40%
Writing assignments: 20%
