Description
This course revolves around current and emerging themes in Classical and Mediterranean research. The series of lectures will offer a stimulating environment for introducing new approaches and addressing key themes in the field of Classical and Mediterranean archaeology.
RMA-students are expected to demonstrate a more comprehensive approach to the topics under discussion. This should be reflected in both active participation and written assignment. RMA-students are expected to make use of a more specific bibliography and develop their arguments within a wider comparative and theoretical framework.
Course objectives
This course provides information on current research directions, methods and theories. A choice of themes will be introduced by experts in the field, and studied and discussed in class by the participants. The aim of the course is to stimulate discussion and encourage students to formulate and express their own views in class, and to develop a sustained argument on paper.
Ects distribution
The course load will be distributed as follows:
7×2 hours of lectures (1 ects);
280 pages of literature (2ects);
Essays and presentation including preparation (2 ects).

Mode of instruction
The students will study texts for each theme and prepare questions for the speakers. Students will present short papers related to the topics in class. The course will conclude with a PechaKucha event, consisting of short and concise presentations (about 6 minutes each) by all students.
Assessment method
Short presentation (15%);
Written assignment (5,000 words) (70%);
Active participation in the class discussion (15%).
