Description
The picture of Russian economy is diverse: high levels of corruption, strong dependence on natural resources, and limited reform, but also high growth rates, strong economic leverage vis-à-vis other countries, and increasing integration into the world economy. This course looks at the current state of the Russian economy. Among the issues that we will discuss are the Soviet legacy, economic reform, energy, the resource curse, state-business relations, informal economy, corruption, and external economic relations.
Objectives
Students gain insight into the main issues regarding the Russian economy. They are trained to apply insights from political economy and economics to the context of the Russian economy. Students also develop research skills through a number of written assignments.
