Course objectives:

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  1. Understand and discuss the role of financial and management accounting and related financial management;
    1. How basic knowledge of the accounting concepts and rules and their impact and application to the business environment;
    2. Critically assess published studies and be able to read, interpret and analyze the primary financial statements and financial reports;
    3. Understand and be able to use and analyze the balance sheet and income statements, based on the accounting equation and accrual accounting;
    4. Understand and be able to use and analyze the statement of cash flows;
    5. Master the skills involved to use accounting information to make judgments about firm performance, including trend analysis, profitability analysis and liquidity analysis.
    6. use the basic techniques for investment evaluation
    7. link the major debates in corporate finance to real life cases
    8. have a real understanding of the major debates in corporate finance
    9. Market efficiency
    10. Dividend Policy
    11. Option valuation
    12. Debt structure and its relevance

Timetable

Mode of instruction

  • The course combines lectures, case studies, interactive discussions, papers, assignments and a final examination.

  • There is a preparatory assignment before the first meeting.

Note: 6 ECTS, 168 SBU, Students should use remaining study time by exploring literature about topic.

Assessment method

You will be evaluated and graded for this course on the following basis:

  • 40% Paper

  • 20% assignment finance management/ accounting

  • 20% assignment corporate finance

  • 20% Final exam
