Description
In this course, we explore intermedial relations between cinema and other media, such as literature, theatre, video, photography, new media and games. With the help of media theoretical ideas by, for instance, Rosalind Krauss, Lars Elleström, Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin and Lev Manovich, students will get acquainted with different conceptualizations of the notion of “medium” as well as several models of intermediality.
Course objectives
On completion of the course, students will
Have reflected on the relation between cinema and other media, both in a contemporary context as well as in the history of film
Be familiar with prevalent definitions of the medium as well as approaches to the concept of intermediality
Have learned how to analyze complex intermedial cinematic objects
Have learned how to give a classroom presentation.
