Description
This course builds on the communication skills developed in Portuguese Module 1, develop-ing further the ability of expressing past events, experiences, wishes etc. Moreover, whilst developing language skills, the course aims at familiarizing students further with elements of Brazilian culture through the use of authentic materials.
Course objectives
This basic user course covers the four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with elementary language structures and a selection of practical vocabulary clusters.

LAS Specific Objectives: · understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly en-countered in work, school, leisure, etc. · deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the lan-guage is spoken. · enter spontaneously into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal inter-est or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events) and being able to make short presentations about them. · describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give rea-sons and explanations for opinions and plans. · narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe the immediate reac-tions. · invite someone and accept or reject an invitation in different contexts and tones. · make arrangements about what to do, where to go and the time and place of ap-pointment. · write simple, short and clear letters / emails where the student can describe facts, say what happened, when and where, using the right layout, etc. · produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. · make a brief oral presentation about a topic of interest.

Written Exam 2 (Final) (40%) (1-2 hours);

Listening comprehension: (5%)
Oral Exam (Final) (20%) (7-15 minutes).
Written exams include linguistic exercises (e.g., fill-the-gap, short answer, etc.), written comprehension, listening comprehension, and short essay.
Oral assessment consists of a question/answer session.
The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

Exam review
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
