Admission to the European Politics and Society Joint Master Programme
Description
Seminar will introduce methodology of social sciences relevant for the study of Europe.
Beside general questions of the philosophy of science it will focus on practical issues of the
theory-method relation, of the problem as the key to scientific inquiry, and it will introduce
the basic qualitative methods. Having passed the course, students will have acquired basic
knowledge of the most important qualitative methods, their advantages and disadvantages,
and their modes of use. They will understand the importance of the method for academic
writing and its relation to the theory. They will understand the difference between an
academic work and policy-related work, both in research questions and in writing style.
