Research School Course(s)

Vak
2019-2020

The national Research Schools (Landelijke Onderzoeksscholen) offer courses on both methodology and area specific knowledge. Many researchers in the Faculty of Humanities are members of a research school related to their area of expertise. Research Schools aim at collaboration of researchers from different faculties in the same university (interfaculty schools) or in different universities (interuniversity schools).

The Research School courses provide PhD and Research Master students with the opportunity to come into contact with fellow PhD and Research Master students from other universities.

Students of all research MAs are required to take at least 10 EC of Research School courses during the programme.

Please note that the courses offered by the Research Schools differ in length and intensity and consequently in the amount of EC that are granted. You may, therefore, have to take multiple courses to meet the requirement of 10 EC.

All students of all research MAs have to be registered as a member of one of the research schools. They can do this either by sending a mail to the research school or to the student advisor, Dr. Nicole van Os,. Being registered for a particular research school does not limit your choice in courses, you are still allowed to also take courses from another research school.

Courses may be taken at more than one Research School, provided that the courses are relevant within the individual programme. The relevancy of courses will be assessed by the student coordinator, Dr. Nicole van Os,.

Students from the MA Asian Studies (research) and the MA Middle Eastern Studies (research) can also choose to follow Mixed Methods in the Social Sciences and Humanities (ResMa) instead of a Research School Course.
