Description
This course aims to discuss and analyze the place of politics in Latin American culture. Concepts of international and Latin American theory will be used, with special attention for the relationship between image, discourse, fiction and community. The theme of the seminar will be to distinguish the place of the political in Latin American literary and cinematographic fiction during the 20th and 21st centuries. To this end, work will be carried out in the first instance on an adequate definition of the concept of politics and politics based on the most current debate on this topic. We will also address the current debate on Latin American modernity and its cultural and political patterns. Secondly, the concept of experience will be studied, linked to the previous themes and thirdly, cases of films and stories will be studied in which both "the political" and "the modern" play a fundamental role. Working on Latin American cinema and literature we will try to arrive at a more exact notion about the relationship between politics and culture or politics and art and about general considerations about the experience in Latin American modernity.
