First year Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences master students.
Description
In this course students will get acquainted with the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPS). The three major disciplines of the Research Divisions of the LACDR correspond to the BPS Research Specialisations Drug Discovery and Safety, division of Drug Discovery & Safety, BioTherapeutics, division of BioTherapeutics and Systems Biomedicine and Pharmacology, division of Systems Biomedicine and Pharmcology. The Research Divisions will briefly introduce their research, giving the students an overview of the possibilities within the LACDR. Furthermore, the collaboration with the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) and the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) will be addressed. Next, the students will follow one of the three Division-specific parts of the course programme in the discipline that corresponds with their BPS Research Specialisation or their division of Research Project 1. During the course students will write their research proposal for their RP1.
Course objectives
The student will write a research proposal for his/her Research Project 1.
The student obtains knowledge about research topics of the division of his/her specialisation
The student is familiar with the research conducted at and possibilities within the LACDR and CHDR
The student will participate in a symposium.
Timetable
The course starts in September 2020 and February 2021 (shorter version). The exact timetable will be presented on Brightspace.
Mode of instruction
Lectures, computer exercises, writing of a research project proposal, presentations and discussions.
Assessment method
Written research project proposal (50%, minimum of a 6), written exam (50%, minimum of a 5,5).
Attending safety training is mandatory and the safety exam (pass/no pass) has to be passed.
