Tutoring and Career Orientation Programme Third Year

Course
2020-2021

Course Description

The Tutoring and Career Orientation programme runs throughout the bachelor’s programme. In the third year the focus is on reflecting on the choices made and skills learned during the bachelor’s programme, and on making plans for the future.

The following questions and topics are central to the third year:

  • Orientation on master’s programmes: What will you do after your bachelor’s? Will you continue to a master’s programme? Which programme fits your career planning?

  • Reflecting on your knowledge, skills and experience: What are your strengths and competences? What can you do to gain more relevant knowledge, skills and experience?

  • Orientation on the labour market: What is the value of anthropology in the labour market? Where do anthropologists work? How do you envision your future career? What can you offer an employer? How do you present yourself to the labour market?

Course Objectives

Central to the Career Orientation programme are the questions, "Who am I?", "What do I want?", "What are my competences" and "How do I achieve my goals?". More specifically, in the third year the focus lies on:

  • taking responsibility for your own personal and professional development;

  • making conscious study choices that are in line with your personal competencies and wishes;

  • gaining insight into the connections between the knowledge, skills and experiences you gain from the bachelor’s programme and the possibilities and wishes you have for your future professional career;

  • familiarising yourself with the labour market for anthropologists;

  • gaining and practising application skills, such as networking; creating a good CV; writing an application letter, and attending a job interview.
