This course is intended for MSc students in the MSc specializations offered by the Institute of Biology with experience in genetics, molecular biology and microbiology.

Description
Lecture series about some of the most field-changing techniques in genetics and molecular biology, which have shaped the biotechnology sector. Lectures will be given by academic and industrial players active in the biotechnology field. In addition to lectures, students will write an research proposal on one of the learned techniques.
Learning goals
Course objectives:
Students will learn modern, state-of-the-art methodologies used in the field of biotechnology, with a special focus on genetics
Students will be able to implement state-of-the-art methodologies to find solutions for biotechnology-related problems
Final qualifications:
Students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge for tackling biotechnology-related problems

On Tuesdays from 24 November 2020 to 5 February 2021.

Mode of instruction
Lectures, self-study of papers, case study
Assessment method
Students write a proposal on one of the learned techniques. Written exam based on the lectures and a selection of key papers on topics discussed during the lectures.
The final grade consists of the following partial grades:
Written assignment: minimum 6.0 (20%)
Exam: minimum 5.6 (80%)
Inspection and feedback on the examination
