Description
Each year an eminent Chilean scholar is invited to occupy this Visiting Professorial Chair at the Department of Latin American Studies (LAS). The Chile Chair focuses on the social, cultural, political and economic evolution of Chile. The name of the visiting professor and the main subject of the course will be announced before September 2021.
Course objectives
This course aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of the nature of present day socio-political reality of Chile. By this, students will obtain extra insights and skills in identifying the relationship between social and economic factors and its political and cultural expressions. To make use of combined academic and journalistic sources to produce a paper about a very recent event.

Assessment method
Assessment
This course is assessed with a final paper (representing 100% of the grade). Deadline: 31 May 2021.
Weighing
The final mark for the course is established by the grade receiver for the paper.
Resit
The resit is only possible for those students who have delivered their papers before the deadline (31 May 2022) and who have been asked by the course coordinator to carry out some improvements in the paper (to be done within a limited period of time).

Remarks
The attendance in this course is mandatory. The students may not be absent in more than three (3) sessions. In cases where more lectures are missed, the course coordinator (Prof.dr. P. Silva) may decide to impose additional assignments, or ultimately exclude the student from further instruction.
