Description
Nowadays large amounts of digital texts are available in libraries, archives and other institutions that have been working on digitizing their collections. Digital publications on internet, social media posts and blogs are another important source of information in digital age and their amount is growing faster than ever before. Vast amounts of textual data are offering a lot of opportunities, but also pose a lot of challenges. How do we process different file formats? How can we get data from archives or somebody’s blog post? Is it legal? How can we classify 10.000 documents or extract relevant information from them? This course aims at providing a theoretical and practical knowledge in working with digital text, from downloading, creating and storing text in digital format to application of methods and tools required to classify texts and extract information from them.
