Description
Students’ schools and classrooms are their daily learning environments. The social interactions that occur in these environments – including interactions among students and between students and teachers – affect students’ social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This course focuses on the effects of students’ learning environments on their social / emotional and behavioral functioning in school. The course first focuses on children and youth who experience difficulties with social/ emotional and behavioral functioning in school. Methods for structuring the environment to improve the functioning of these students in school are discussed. The focus then turns to the role of teacher-student interactions in fostering social / emotional and behavioral functioning, by focusing on the consequences of teacher behavior for student behavior and student’s social evaluation by peers.

Assessment method
Two open book exams. Both exams need to be passed (5,5 or higher) in order to pass the course. If you earn a failing grade (onvoldoende) on one of the exams, the grade for the other exam cannot be carried over to the next year.

Registration
Education
Students must register themselves for all course components (lectures, tutorials and practicals) they wish to follow. You can register in My Studymap up to 5 days prior to the start of the course. The exception here is that first-year bachelor students are assigned and registered for all components in the first semester or academic year by the administration of their bachelor programme. The programme will communicate to these students for which course components and for which period the registration applies.
Exams
It is mandatory for all students, including first-year bachelor students, to register for each exam and to confirm registration for each exam in My Studymap. This is possible up to and including 10 calendar days prior to the examination. **You cannot take an exam without a valid pre-registration and confirmation in My Studymap. **
