Description
The European Union is many things: a polity in the making, a peace project, a complex foreign policy actor, but it is also and perhaps above all a large and well institutionalized market. The majority of the EU’s laws have to do with the problems of economic regulation, and it is the power of its vast market that underwrites much of its international influence.
In this course, we explore the constitutive elements of this economic power: the principles of trade integration and the European customs union, the single market and its four freedoms, and the evolution of the Economic and Monetary Union. The course will provide the participants with a thorough understanding of the political, economic, and legal aspects of economic integration in Europe, and guide them through a joint exploration of the ongoing challenges that make this process uneven and far from finished.

Knowledge of the key elements and principles of economic integration
