Personality, Clinical and Health Psychology or a similar course (only for students outside of the bachelor programme Psychology). Students outside of the bachelor programme Psychology (excl. minor and Exchange students) who have taken a similar course, need to contact the study advisers of Psychology to assess if they fullfil the entry requirements (deadline: 14 days before the start of the course).
Description
The course examines themes from a bio-psycho-sociological perspective, thus studying different theoretical models as well as different topics within the field of sexology. The course covers such topics as:
History in the sexology field, sexual development in childhood, adolescence and adulthood until an older age.
The anatomy and physiology of the sexual response in women and men.
Sexual dysfunction in men and women: etiology and treatment options.
Sexual diversity.
Research on human sexuality.
Paraphilias and gender identity disorder.
Victims of sexual abuse. And what is known about sexual abusers?
Course objectives
After completion of the course, students are able to:
Describe different theoretical models of human sexuality;
Describe the sexual development process;
Describe the different sexual dysfunctions in men and women and recognise the possible aetiologies for different dysfunctions;
Describe which treatment(s ) will be indicated for a specific sexual problem;
Explain different methods in sex research.

Registration
Education
Students must register themselves for all course components (lectures) they wish to follow. You can register up to 5 days prior to the start of the course.
Exams
You must register for each exam in My Studymap at least 10 days before the exam date. Don’t forget! For more information, see the enrolment procedure.

Mode of instruction
This course offers eight lectures of two hours. Attendance is not mandatory. The web lectures and slides will be made available on Brightspace (barring technical issues).
Language:
The literature, lectures and slides are in English. The exam questions are in English.
Assessment method
The written exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions (which determine 60% of the grade) and eight essay questions (40%). These questions test your knowledge of the course material. The examination questions cover the capita selecta, the lectures and some knowledge clips. Detailed information about the exact course material will be made available on Brightspace at the start of the course.
The Institute of Psychology uses fixed rules for grade calculation. It also follows the policy of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences to systematically check student papers for plagiarism with the help of software. All students are required to take and pass the Scientific Integrity Test with a score of 100% in order to learn about the practice of integrity in scientific writing. Students are given access to the quiz via a module on Brightspace. Disciplinary measures will be taken when fraud is detected. Students are expected to be familiar with and understand the implications of these two policies.
You will be informed via Brightspace about the manner of inspection and discussion of the examination in due course.
