Description
Le cours propose un regard historique sur la France d’aujourd’hui (des 30 glorieuses à nos jours), pour comprendre les lignes de force qui articulent le système culturel, politique, économique et social et qui justifient les pratiques contemporaines. Une attention particulière sera portée aux spécificités de la France telles que: la centralisation, les grèves, la laïcité, les questions du genre et de la famille, la transition écologique, la mémoire de la colonisation, etc. qui seront analysées à travers des documents authentiques (films, chansons, revue de presse, interviews etc.).
Course objectives
À la fin du cours, les étudiants seront à même de
Comprendre les liens entre histoire et mémoire d’événements clés de la société française.
Interpreter les transformations de la société française et les spécificités de la France face aux transformations mondiales.
Analyser des documents en français sur les institutions et les problèmes de société de la France contemporaine.
Présenter (à l’écrit et à l’oral) l’analyse de ces phénomènes
Porter un regard critique sur les sources (sonores, audiovisuelles, littéraires, textuelles et iconographiques).

Mode of instruction
Seminar
Lecture
Students prepare (and in some cases submit) homework assignments that are discussed in class. The students work in groups on a project on a cultural topic related to contemporary France. During this group project, students train their academic writing and presentation skills.
Assessment and Weighing
Written exam with open questions (60%)
Written assignments (20%)
Oral presentation (20%)
Resit
Written exam (100%). Only insufficient exams can be retaken. The practicum (written assignments and oral presentation) cannot be retaken.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
