Modern Standard Arabic 2.

Description

This course aims to make students more familiar with nonfiction materials in Modern Standard Arabic. After successfully completing this course, students will be better able to deal with nonfiction because they have expanded their vocabulary, learned and developed reading and listening strategies and sharpened their grammatical knowledge. This is done by reading various nonfiction texts (texts from the media and other informational texts) as well as listening to varied listening material in Modern Standard Arabic.

Course objectives

Increasing receptive language skills (in particular reading skills, but also listening skills):

  • Expanding vocabulary

  • Expand and sharpen grammar knowledge

  • Getting acquainted with and further developing reading and listening strategies

Assessment method

Assessment

Classroom participation and homework assignments (20%)
Midterm exam (20%)
Final exam (60%)

Weighing

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

Resit

If the final grade is 5.5 or less students may take a resit once (100%).

Inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
