Description
This course is meant to learn about, critically evaluate and communicate about recent issues and advances in Education and Child Studies. Recent Issues and advances are topics that concern our field as a whole, such as research integrity, Open Science, methodology, translating science into practice, but also on theories of broad interest to the field. These topics will focus on both the applied as well as on the more fundamental issues in Education and Child Studies. Each session we will focus on a different topic. By writing commentaries, presenting, and discussing students will form, and learn the nuances, of recent issues and advances in Education and Child Studies.

Assessment method
Oral presentation (20% of final grade), four written commentaries (80% of final grade), and active contribution to discussions (possibility to earn extra credit). Presence during the lectures is mandatory. If you miss more than one lecture you cannot finish the course and will have to take the entire course again next year; this also means that any assignments you hand in after mi
Students should score higher than 5.5 on all assignments in order to pass the course. If a passing grade is not attained for the presentation, the student will receive another chance to present during the final class meeting. Each of the commentaries should receive a grade of higher than 5.5 to pass the course. Students will have a chance to rewrite and resubmit papers for which no passing grade was attained. The final grade is based on the oral presentation (20%), four written commentaries (80%), and active contribution to discussions (possibility to earn extra credit).
There is no final exam. Each of the four written commentaries is graded as well as the oral presentation. The final grade is based on these grades. There is no group work, all assignments are graded individually. The first commentary can be submitted early for extensive feedback. Students will also receive feedback after their presentation, and may request feedback after all commentaries have been graded.
